Following funding from the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society to support their website, Seven by Seven have taken the step of producing a book of articles which will be added to both our Local History Archive and the Music and Performing Arts Library.

On Saturday 29 March we were delighted to hold a Seven by Seven session at the newly refurbished Music and Performing Arts Library at Leeds Central Library. Lee Noon and the team provided us with a warm welcome and the library was the perfect setting for our vinyl playing session. Playing records surrounded by their extensive collection of music books was a treat.
We also took the opportunity to present the library with a copy of our new book Check the record – Blog articles from the Seven by Seven website
We are so excited that our book will be part of the Leeds Central Library collection, available to borrow from the music library and also for research in the local history archive.
The articles, written by members, emerged from discussions about Seven by Seven, music, stories of past gigs and chats about the merits of long forgotten bands and memories of where singles were bought. New blogs are still posted on the website as they come along.
When Martin Staniforth (Chair of the Grants Committee at the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society) suggested preserving the articles that members have written, Seven by Seven got in touch with the Local History Library at Leeds Central Library to discuss the best way to safeguard these articles. They met with our local history librarian Antony Ramm who confirmed the articles will provide a valuable insight into this important period of Leeds history, and this book is the result.
Antony also discussed our project to develop an archive of tickets and gig posters from Leeds, and Seven by Seven were delighted to share the details with their members who were very quick to respond by digging through their gig ticket collections and contributing.
Seven by Seven run their sessions for fun, and are so proud that by working with us they can make a contribution to the history of music in Leeds for future generations.
