Read Easy Leeds

In November, Read Easy held a second Graduation Day at Leeds Central Library, where 15 readers achieved certificates.

Among these graduates are readers with inspiring stories, like Neil who had suffered a severe brain injury. After just a few months of working with his Read Easy coach, he progressed to reading sentences again and started texting his friends! He now reads for pleasure and enjoys borrowing ebooks.

Hamdi used to avoid tasks requiring her to read and couldn’t support her children’s reading. She graduated in November and also celebrated passing her driving test.

‘Read Easy has really helped me with my confidence and it has opened my eyes to all the things I found challenging. Now I’m able to tell stories to my kids and tell them about articles I’ve read. I’m enrolled at college and I’m encouraging lots of my friends to keep pushing themselves even if it’s hard!’

Read Easy book collections are also suitable for ESOL learners. There are collections at Armley, Compton Road, Dewsbury Road and Central, and you can find the books on our catalogue here

Our Reader Development Team will continue to work with Read Easy. The charity is also recruiting volunteer coaches, so please spread the word or learn more on their website: https://readeasy.org.uk/groups/leeds/
