Congratulations to our School Library Service on its 50th anniversary!
Leeds School Library Service is part of Leeds Libraries and provides books, tailored information and advice to support classroom teaching and build a culture of reading for pleasure in schools.
The service began life in 1974 with just a handful of resources, but now supplies schools with a choice of over 300 amazing resource boxes full of inspiring themed reads. Last year they delivered over 196,000 books to schools across the city. The team also organised fantastic author events with over 6,000 children getting a chance to meet and speak to inspiring authors and illustrators, sparking a lifelong love of reading.
Don’t just take our word for it, here’s what schools have to say:
"I love how helpful and enthusiastic the SLS team are and hope there will be another 50 years of SLS lined up."
"Our jobs as educators would be much harder without you"
"SLS is a wonderful service which I know does not exist in all areas. We are incredibly lucky to have it."
Here’s to another 50 years of spreading the joy of reading!
