Frequently Asked Questions

What will the money be spent on?

Donations will be used entirely to maintain and enhance the services we offer to the community. There are no deductions or fees and they will not be used to pay salaries.

Doesn't my Council Tax cover the costs of the service?

Council Tax doesn't cover all the library service's running costs.

Leeds Libraries (like many other library services) raises extra money to support the development and sustainability of services.

Donations are one of several revenue streams to help us achieve this.

What other ways of raising income are you considering?

We have a number of income generating services, including:

  • Photocopier charges

  • Printing charges

  • Meeting room hire

  • Pay as you feel or charged events

Will my donation go to my local library or to Leeds Libraries?

100% of each donation goes directly to Leeds Libraries and will be directed to where it is most needed. We believe in prioritising funds to where the need is greatest.

Are you able to accept larger donations?

Yes, we are. Larger donations will support us to preserve our historic special collections or acquire new ones.
